THINGS THAT THE VOLUNTEERS WILL NEED TO BRING FOR THE PROJECT

1) rubber boots (you can purchase them in Quito)

 2) insect repellant

 3) a jacket or raincoat

 4) work gloves

5) light-weight and warm clothes (you already know that in Quito, as in Chiriboga, some days are very hot while others are cool)

 6) flashlight (torch); we ask that at the end of the camp the volunteers donated their flashlights to the project

 7) medicine: fungus cream, stomach/digestive medicine (sometimes the change in food causes stomach problems), and other emergency medicines

 8) sleeping bag


WHAT THE PROJECT OFFERS:

  •  4 weeks lodging and meals

  • Tthree weeks of Spanish classes (3 hours per day)

  • a tour of Quito Viejo (Old Town) on the second day of your stay, accompanied by an English-speaker

  •  a trip to Otavalo, an indigenous market, on the second Saturday.

  • a visit to the Middle of the World (the equator) (the Project pays for museum fees)

      ** Volunteers pay for their own transportation


 VOLUNTEERS FULFILL THE FOLLOWING ACTIVITIES

 1) work with the community, according to its needs

 2) work in a greenhouse

 3) an eight-hour hike to where the Saloya and Virginia rivers meet

 4) feed the guinea pigs

 5) weigh the guinea pigs on a weekly basis

 6) clean the guinea pig pens

 7) (during the school year) help the teacher of the school **other types of activities will be done according to the needs of the Project. Some of the work can be very hard; the volunteer should not give up.


 VOLUNTEER CONTRIBUTIONS

The volunteers should contribute US $300.00 as it helps the Project.

 **If they wish, the volunteers can give: notebooks, pencils, colored pencils, or didactic material for the children of the Padre Menthen de Chiriboga school..
